Mike Selig is the US president’s pick to chair the CFTC. Probably.

Welcome to the Meridian Update, your daily on-chain report. We interrupt the regularly scheduled program (no Meridian Update on the weekends) to bring you this important message. Let’s dive in.

Time to CFTC what’s going on in regulatory

“U.S. President Donald Trump has picked Michael Selig as the Commodity Futures Trading Commission's chair, Bloomberg News reported on Friday, citing an administration official.”

From Reuters. Here’s the original Bloomberg report.

We wrote this yesterday evening. Sorry we aren’t typing live. So as of writing, this was still a report. Things can change. But it seems the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) has a new nominee for chair. We previously wrote:

“We talk often about regulation in the on-chain world here at the Meridian Update. The on-chain world is rapidly developing and changing. It proposes novel, reframed, and reworked approaches to markets (and more!). Regulation seems to matter quite a bit for this sort of thing.”

Well said. It does seem to matter quite a bit for this sort of thing. On Oct. 3, we talked about the CFTC, how a prior nominee to chair the CFTC wound up having that nomination pulled, and that Mike Selig was a front-runner to be nominated. And alas.

That’s a wrap

Mike Selig is the US president’s pick to chair the CFTC. Probably. Enjoy the rest of the weekend.
